# Apify subscription plans

Each subscription plan comes with a certain amount of prepaid platform usage that you can spend on Apify services. These services include Actors, proxies, data transfer, and storage.

## Choose the right plan

When choosing a subscription plan, consider the number of compute units (CU) that you need.

Every plan has a different price per CU. For example, it's $0.2 on the Starter plan, but $0.16 on the Scale plan. The cost of CUs is deducted from your prepaid usage.

If you're unsure which plan is right for you, pick the lowest-priced plan that has all the features that you need. If you exceed the prepaid platform usage, you have the option to go into overage. If you don't consume all your prepaid usage, it disappears at the end of the billing cycle.

### Try Apify for free

The Free plan lets you use most of the features of the Apify platform. It includes [Apify Proxy](https://docs.apify.com/proxy.md), which you can use within the platform.

Note that when you consume all prepaid usage on the free plan, you can't use the platform until the next billing cycle. Pay-as-you-go is available only on paid plans.

## Subscribe to an Apify plan

To subscribe to one of the Apify plans:

1. Log in to [Apify Console](https://console.apify.com).
2. In the left-side panel, go to **Billing**.
3. Select the **Subscription** tab.
4. In **Current subscription**, select **Upgrade**.

In the form that opens, follow the steps:

1. In the **Plan** step, select the subscription plan.
2. *(Optional)* In the **Add-ons** step, expand the selected plan by choosing extra resources.
3. In the **Billing details** step, complete your billing information. If you're VAT-exempt, provide your VAT ID.
4. In the **Payment method** step, choose your preferred payment method.

### Expand your plan with add-ons

You can expand each plan with the following add-ons:

* Add [shared datacenter proxies](https://docs.apify.com/proxy/datacenter-proxy.md)
* Increase the [Actor memory allocation](https://docs.apify.com/actors/running/usage-and-resources.md)
* Increase the number of Actor concurrent runs
* Get priority chat support
* Get personal tech training

### Upgrade or downgrade your plan

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time, even in the middle of the billing cycle.

When you upgrade, your payment is prorated. It means that you'll only pay for the difference between the old and the new price, taking into account how much of the billing cycle has already passed.

When you downgrade, there's no proration. The unused platform usage is rolled over to the new plan.

## Pay as you go

Your usage limit defines how much you can spend in a billing cycle. By default, it matches the amount of your prepaid usage. Once you consume all the prepaid usage, Apify services get suspended to protect you against unwanted charges. You get notified as you approach the limit.

To continue using the platform, adjust your usage limit. All usage past your prepaid usage is charged as overage on a pay-as-you-go basis. Services stay available until you reach your defined usage limit.

Immediate overage invoicing

If your overage platform usage reaches the threshold for your plan before your next billing cycle, you get invoiced for the overage charges immediately. Otherwise, the overage charges will be added to your next subscription invoice. The threshold is $20 on the Starter plan and $200 on higher plans.

### Adjust your usage limit

Each plan has a maximum usage limit: $100 on Starter, $1,000 on Scale, and $5,000 on Business.

To change your usage limit:

1. Log in to [Apify Console](https://console.apify.com).
2. In the left-side panel, go to **Billing**.
3. Select the **Limits** tab.
4. In **Custom usage limit**, select **Edit limit**.
